At first glance, climbing walls for toddlers might seem like an inappropriate sport for our little ones. Quite the opposite! Climbing does not have to be synonymous with danger, as long as the necessary precautions are taken.  Climbing walls for toddlers is a very fun sport and an ideal activity for super active children because it helps with the development of concentration, their gross motor skills and allows them to release a little of all that extra energy they always have. You can do it as an afternoon plan, weekend or as an extracurricular activity.

What Age Is Appropriate For A Child To Start Climbing?

The answers vary depending on the location, but the places that offer this service usually estimate that at 3 or 4 years old children can begin to climb artificial walls, with the supervision of their parents. However, for courses, the minimum age is 5 years. There are two types of climbing depending on the climber’s experience: Climbing in mountains and with real rocks, and climbing on artificial walls with harness and ropes that sometimes call it routes or with bars and boulder mats. These last two are ideal for children and beginners, much safer and easier to perform.

Safety:

Climbing is a very safe sport where the most important thing is, as in all children’s activities, never lose sight of the little ones. With a good instructor who knows how to deal with children, the necessary equipment and a large mat under the wall or a safety harness (which exists in all the enclosures in the city), your children will be safe.

Equipment:

When it comes to equipment, there is no need to worry, all climbing walls for toddlers sites offer equipment rental service, which includes a harness and a helmet and shoes or cat feet as they call them (if children are very small sometimes they don’t have their sizes). However, if you want your child to climb frequently, you may want to buy his own equipment. In sports stores, they sell helmets, harness, and cats, especially for young children.

When they begin to climb, the tendency is always to be compressed and to make the movements abruptly or without efficiently using our arms and legs. This is normal. However, it is important to learn to recognize how much force we should apply in each movement and from which parts of our body that force should come out.
