Essential Climbing Training – Things You Must Know

Climbing is a sport that involves a lot of energy and physical effort. Climbing brings with it fear and for some this may be a major deterrent to them taking up the sport. For some climbers, fear of heights and the idea of being caught off balance and being out of control can be enough to dissuade them from trying it. However, some people have been injured while participating in this sport which would tell you that despite their initial fears, some people will still go ahead and start climbing.

Climbing is in no way a casual activity and you need to know how to climb properly. Therefore, if you are keen on the sport of climbing and would like to try it, then you must follow some simple safety measures when you start. Some of these include learning about your level of climbing ability before going on and your safety equipment while you climb.

You need to know what level of difficulty you are comfortable with so that you can take the right steps to try to climb as often as you can. Knowing the level of difficulty is not enough, though. You also need to make sure that you have adequate fall protection on hand if there are times when you need to be tested.

What To Think Before Climbing?

When you try to do anything dangerous, you must remember that you need to have protection so that you can be sure that your fall will not be disastrous and might be fatal if it is done by someone else. This is particularly true if you are dealing with lead climbing clipping. Lead climbing clipping is when you climb a climb without the use of your hands or feet to connect or secure yourself.

This is not only dangerous but it has come a long way from the days when a rope was tied around your waist and you were free to go anywhere you wished. While most people still prefer to use their hands to climb, with every passing year we have seen the development of machinery that does all the work. If you are going to try this type of climbing then you need to make sure that you have protection and knowledge of how to use it.

One example of this type of protection is the ‘atlas shoe’, which is attached to a fixed object on one’s foot. The idea is that it will have a spur at the end that attaches to your boots and when you are climbing you can just slide the shoes off to allow you to connect to the fixed object. Of course, this is extremely effective but the problem is that they can be a bit cumbersome, especially when you are in high heels or boots.

You can try to do this if you are just using a pair of running shoes and socks or even your pants, but it is still not as good as having an additional piece of protection, especially if you are going to do a lot of climbing.

Importance Of Harness

Another type of fall protection that is becoming more popular is the use of a harness. A harness is a ‘bridle’ that is fitted around your waist and has straps that can be tightened so that you are connected to it. It can be used to help you get through tight spots and to keep you secure, but it is also highly effective in helping to avoid falls. You can try it on your own but most people have no trouble at all attaching the harness without help.

While the use of a harness is generally thought of as being to prevent falls, it can also help in situations where you are falling when you are climbing. For example, if you are in high heels and you have climbed the steps to your first headwall and you turn to the left or move sideways and it might be the case that you could stumble and hit your head.

You will want to ensure that you have the right foot on the right-hand side of the rope. You do not want to place your right foot down and use your left foot to stop yourself from losing balance. If you need help then you can use your left hand to steady yourself. Climbing is the act of walking up or down a wall, usually up a mountain or slope. The good thing about climbing is that you do not necessarily have to climb the whole hill. Rather, you can put in little climbs here and there. And to increase your confidence, you can climb higher and try to master the basic moves to reach the top.
